woo shipment of CDs has just come in from Crunch Pod! I gots a bunch of hard beat-y stuff from them. Contains:
- new Prometheus Burning album, plague called huMANity (exciting!)
- the first Endif album, Meta
- the recent Uberbyte album, Dos
- an old-ish C/A/T album, Point of No Return (I've been ignoring this guy for too damn long)
- brand new Cervello Elettronico album! (titled Process of Elimination)

hoorays! Listening to the new Prometheus Burning album. So far sounds pretty good, but maybe not as good as their first album (though that's a hard ask, it was quite seriously fucking good). Bit of an 80s sound to their synths, which I wasn't expecting (not necessarily a bad thing, but not quite convinced how it works alongside their sound).

Pretty soon I should have a massive order coming in from Tympanik Audio, containing a big bunch of more technoid / electronica / IDM type stuff.

PHILIP BUTLER
TRAPPED AT SEA
Sawmill / Steelmill

I know nothing of folk music apart from the simple fact I recoil from the twee worldview I associate with anything reared from Steeleye/Fairport sap, but Butler is like a descendant of the darker moods evoked by John Martyn or Michael Chapman. And, why we’re contemplating this, he’s got ‘There's ghosts in the coaching house........’ written on his myspace page, and announces new song ‘Jack The Moment’ (or ‘Jack The Mommet’ according to the myspace player) as concerning, “a supernatural scarecrow that abducts young girls and transforms them into his straw brides,” which is definitely a direction we want to see him going in, tapping into a fertile territory. I figured I’d tip you off about this because it was released earlier this year and it’s a limited edition of only 100.

Wars. We all understand very well that it’s just somebody’s business, somebody’s money. Cruel, bloody money.
Millionaires, multi-millionaires – their money are used in arms traffic, politics. All that happens in order to earn MORE money. I address to all oligarchs whose money are concerned with politics (and it means that they are concerned with all the wars):
BUY these five paintings! Give your fucking money for them! Hang them in your room, look at them and think about death. Think about those who died for your money. Think about death which is represented on these pictures and think about life which they are washed with – these pictures are sodden with my milk, with my life. I did it as hope that HUMAN life would become more important for you than money. Buy these paintings, accept this life and remember about it always. Look at them and think about the fact that you will die too and all the world can perish if we don’t invest money in life. Everything can disappear, and what for you accumulated all these millions and billions?
Buy these pictures and show to all the people fighting for their lives that you are worth being called a HUMAN BEING. After your death the world will remember that you didn’t live here for nothing.
Please! All those who read this – add me as a friend! Help me to extend my manifest. It must find it’s addressees.
LET’S SAVE LIFE! LET’S STOP WARS!

So yeah, today I was utterly surprised by a phone call from a recruitment agency who are recruiting (for themselves!) a Team Coordinator. The job involves some project and general office management. The lady who phoned me said she likes the sound of my resume and wanted to get to know me and what I was looking for. She is based in Melbourne but needs to recruit her Sydney based counterpart, which hopefully is me :)

I just made this for dinner. I added onion and red capsicum to the sauce and didn't put milk in the batter because I had run out (I used water). I also nearly set my stove on fire.

DELICIOUS.

That is all.

Below is a flier for a club that has not been run in a few months. This particular club had their last venue made unavailable, after an incident in which pig's blood, at an event advertised as a "Blood party", was smeared over bathroom walls and some patrons.

While the theme of the night was blood, I'm certain no one expected actual, stinking, pig's blood to be on them or their clothing.

No responsibility for any distress or dry cleaning has been taken by the organisers, nor any apologies offered. In fact, the attitude by the organisers afterwards seemed to simply be a "get over it" sort of response to people who had rightfully been distressed and inconvenienced by this incident. this is, of course, to say nothing of the overwhelming health implications of smearing and spattering pig's blood over people and facilities.

In the below post, I replied asking,

"Are there any assurances this No Vitals will be pig's blood and other noxious substance free?"

Rather than an apology, explanation or assurance, this post was deleted. Therefore, I feel I need to bring the discussion into it's own post.

I invite the organisers to respond to this post with any explanations, what steps they have or will be taking to ensure this does not happen again in the course of one of their events, and, of course, to offer any apologies to the people were effected by this incident.

uhh...wut?

Ascension in the Terrorgraph!

AS controversial ARIA nominee Ladyhawke played down the road, things got into the, er, gloom at a reoccurring goth night called Ascension at the Sly Fox Hotel earlier on, where piercings, platforms and pink hair pervade and The Cure play on repeat. But we learnt never to judge a goth by its make up - everyone was lovely and only one person tried to bite us. Just joking.

I am procrastinating - I should be either sorting out doctor stuff or, failing that, studying for my exam on Friday - but I would prefer to write about my weekend, instead.

It was relatively boring but exhausting, which just isn't fair. I think it was partly boring because I didn't have much more energy than to sit quietly and nod occasionally.

The weekend actually started Thursday evening, when Ruby came over for dinner. I cooked Linguine alla Genovese with brocolli and bacon. For those not in the know, alla Genovese is pesto and potatoes. Carb on carb. Yum.

I broke out the wines my brother had sent me from the Coffs Coast region as a belated birthday present - a Chardonnay (of which I can't remember the name of, and I've thrown out the bottle. It was either Kia Ora or Two Tails) and a Raleigh Wines Dry White. Despite the fact that I have declared a dislike for Chardonnay, I have discovered that it must be American oaked Chardonnay I don't like, because the one he sent me was delightful (and was French oaked).

Ramona and I both utter the famous last words of, "Ah, tomorrow's Friday! We don't need to function tomorrow!" *throws down vodka*

Needless to say, we weren't particularly on the ball the next day. I was meeting up with Lou for a free lunch, so I forced myself out of the house.

The free lunch was courtesy of Brasserie Bread, who invited their followers on Twitter to come and grab a free sandwich and a fruit mince pie.

Oh. My. God. The fruit mince pies. I have long held the belief that I don't like fruit mince pies. I've now realised I've just never had a good one.

Friday night was spent agonising over what to get for take away dinner, then not eating the very thing I was adamant needed to come with my meal - the potatoes. Then early to bed.

Saturday involved getting up early with the intention of getting to Everleigh Markets at a reasonable hour, only to have the morning get away from us and arrive at the markets around 45 minutes before they closed. We still managed to get my knives sharpened, buy organic steak and spatchcocks, gourmet breakfast rolls (I'll have the chorizo and onion with tomato and basil sauce, thanks) and get sub-par coffee that made Ramona and I both incredibly wired and dehydrated. Ick.

Then there was grocery shopping, where I finally bought big glass jars to make sauerkraut with. Have not yet made the sauerkruat. I will this week, I SWEAR.

I was supposed to meet up with a high school friend from Melbourne who is currently on a home visit from Ireland (it makes sense to me), but she got a bit drunk in Potts Point and time got away from her. Oops. Not to worry. She had already made the effort to come to my daughter's Christening in the Middle of Nowhere, Ireland, so I'm not too fussed.

Besides, it was an excuse to have a cider or two in the Carlisle Castle, of which I've walked past, but never been in. Two thumbs up from me. I'll be going there, the Court House, or the Rose of Australia from now on.

Speaking of that, I am never going to the Townie again. I was in the bottle shop, buying a gift for the birthday girl of the party that was our last stop before home, when there seemed to be a tiny altercation at the counter. I didn't hear it, but a woman, older than me, dressed fairly plainly, purchasing a can of Jack Daniels, apparently called the other girl at the counter, younger than me, who was going for a Bettie Page look but failed, a 'fucking slut'.

I didn't hear her say that, nor did I hear the younger girl apparently say something to her, which was the older woman's defence at the time. All I heard was the guy at the counter demand that she leave, then make a big show of getting the manager to tell her to go and get the security guard to escort her out.

Why did this turn me off? It was the show of strength to the potential mate by the bar staff, essentially. The young girl and guy at the counter were flirting, and, if the young girl DID say something to the older woman first, then it was a case of 'You're not pretty enough for me to care', and preferential treatment for someone they considered attractive.

Even if the girl didn't say something, the effort the bar staff went to to prove just how manly they were in front of this girl was really off-putting. The guy really didn't need to get involved, and he didn't need to throw the woman out. She wasn't shouting or making threats. She was fairly quiet, to the extent that I couldn't hear if she had said anything at all, 1 metre away.

I've seen bouncers do that and, sadly, it's almost become something you don't notice. When the bar staff start doing it as well, you know a place has gone downhill. Yes, it took me fucking ages to realise, but I get it now.

Anyway, we got home around 11pm, sat on the couch for 10 minutes, then went to a birthday party. Most of the party went to a club after we arrived, and I had every intention of going to bed after I had finished my Lemon Myrtle Witbier, but I ended up drinking some wine and not going to bed until 5am. Whoops. No wonder I still haven't kicked this 'flu.

Sunday was spent eating and snoozing, and studying while Brian took Roisin out to the shops. I also purchased some White Peach Nectar by Alain Milliat and some verjus with a $50 Visa gift card, which was also a present from my brother for my birthday. The idea was that I bought something food related and frivolous or expensive, that I wouldn't ordinarily buy. Now I am dreaming of White Peach Bellinis over summer. Nom.

Long post is long.

Grrr
Waiting waiting waiting. Waiting. Want thing I'm waiting for to happen NOW.

Ran a system recovery on the old desktop PC, which seems to have cured it of The Screaming Trojans, and got a new router that, for some reason, neither computer wants to connect to wirelessly. Need another ethernet cable. Tech stuff makes me sleepy.

Sleepy now.

Pleased to be telling me everything that's on for the next few weeks/months. I'm putting them into Google Calendar.

Facebook on my iPhone is giving me the shits and not telling me the correct date and time for things (I think it's stuck in a different time zone, tried to fix it, it's not listening). I can't tell if events are supposed to be on a Friday or a Saturday. Help with this would be much appreciated.

In other news, I'm almost too tired to go out and get lunch. Blargh. I think the idea of standing around, waiting somewhere for someone to give me take away is what's putting me off the most. I think I might get Pho, because I can just walk up, sit in a comfy chair and not move until my Pho is all gone.

Anyway, HALP me with events. Go!

So this weekend we did a road trip to our nation's glorious capital, Canberra! Was heaps of fun. Nicole, Emma, James and myself drove down on Saturday morning (not quite as early as we'd planned but not far off). We stopped in at a winery called Lerida Estate. They had a really good riesling and a great pinot gris, so we picked up a few bottles and continued on our way.
We were staying at a serviced apartment near Parliament House. Which rocked! Super big, fully equipped kitchen, and only $50 each a night. A bargain at twice the price! Some of Nicole's friends came around for drinks and snacks, and then we headed out to Chrome, which was fun though very messy. Some of our companions had taken a few too many torpedo hits and were basically down for the count so we had to leave a bit earlier than I'd hoped. Sunday morning we first hit up a farmer's market in an old bus depot, which was great. We bought some bread and artisan pasta. Then we headed out for brunch in Manuka where I think we found one of the more overpriced (but decent) cafes there. Then it was the fun but weary drive back home.

We are definitely going to go down again; I really want to check out Helm winery, which apparently is making possibly the best Riesling in Australia.

Anyway last night I decided to make a meal of the noice spaghetti we bought at the markets. I decided to try and imitation of the stupendously awesome bread and parmesan pasta with prawns at Libiamo (www.libiamo.com.au). I was using chilli spaghetti. This is basically how it went.

Chop up one onion and one large (or two small) cloves of garlic.
Get a punnet of either cherry or mini-roma tomatoes and quarter them.
Chop up about a tablespoon of (fresh!!) marjoram.
Get your hands on 300 grams of raw prawns.

Now start boiling yer water, the sauce doesn't take long.
Chuck two tablespoons of olive oil in a pan, throw in the onion and turn up the heat.
When it's starting to sizzle a little, throw in the garlic. Stir around for a couple of minutes.
Add in the tomatoes and most of the marjoram, stir around. You should probably be chucking in the pasta about now (depending on how long the pasta takes; this stuff was hand made so only took about 4 minutes, if it is dried stuff from the shop then you would have put it in earlier), with a pinch or two of salt.
Approx 2 minutes before the pasta is ready, put in the prawns and the rest of the marjoram and stir around.
Drain pasta, throw prawns and sauce on top, and eat! Yum!
Tips: make sure to dice the onion finely. Put it in the pan before you start heating the olive oil, not after. Also don't cook the sauce too long, or the tomatoes lose their texture. They are not supposed to break down, this is not a red sauce.
